strategy: Situation
As a 2 year old software products
start-up, the organization was focused on evolving its
core technology in natural language processing. At this
point, the organization had to start focusing on
productization of the technology. This meant re-align
some of its engineers to start working differently.
Challenge
Natural language processing is still a
fuzzy area as far as measurable quality objectives are
concerned. Moreover, when language experts need to work
closely with software engineers it makes the situation
more challenging. However, it was imperative that a set
of senior engineers start focusing on creating solutions
and delivering to customer needs.
Actions
Through a set of one-on-one
discussions, we assisted the engineers in identifying
key measurables. We conducted a training workshop on
software architecture which helped create structural and
dynamic views of the solution architecture. We defined a
competency framework and identified differentiating
competencies in each role.
Results
Senior management is much better
equipped to ready itself to handle multiple customers.
