Current research project:
How to run an innovation
program successfully?
Scope
of research is restricted to organizational innovations – from Toyota
to Tata Motors to Tihar Jail. Basic unit of study is an
intervention – an action taken in order to make the organization more
innovative. An intervention could be putting an idea management system
in place or it could be developing communities of practice or it could
be creating a laboratory. In fact, we study interventions spanning various
elements of organizational
innovation ecosystem. We try to separate robust
interventions from non-robust ones (e.g.
a failed innovation program ,
early interventions by ATIRA in improving textile mills in Ahmedabad).
The end goal is to create a simple and useful model
which managers can use to run innovation programs successfully.
This
work is done jointly with Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan of IIM Bangalore.
Prof. Krishnan is an authority on innovation ecosystem especially at a
national level and has recently published an excellent book titled “From Jugaad
to systematic innovation”.
